Blitz Theatre Group, Late Night, 2012, Performance
Late Night takes place in the early hours in a down-at-heel dance hall. Six actors are on stage. They dance, as if they were participating in an absurd competition, or running away from something that haunts them.
They do playback singing, drink, perform magic tricks or sit in the chairs talking about their wishes and secret dreams. At times, they talk on the microphone, trying to remember their journey through Europe, a lost love, the days of a European war that is still going on...
Watching the performers, one is reminded of David Lynch or John Cassavetes films and their uncanny quality.
One is not sure about this ruined dance hall or its real function. The only thing that is certain is a feeling of confinement and the constant struggle of the characters to remember and by this, to stay alive while the situation outside is out of control.
