Dilek Winchester, Homage to Emin Barın, 2014, Installation
Emin Barın (1913 – 1987) is among one of the few artists using Latin alphabet in traditional Ottoman calligraphy. Homage to Emin Barın is an installation consisting of three sections and based on the reinterpretation of Barın’s eight different works. In the first section, 6 of Barın’s calligraphy works, which were included in the catalogue of Barın’s exhibition at Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul in 1978, are copied and painted on canvas. Other two sections focus on Barın’s open-air sculptures that are produced during the 1970s and can still be seen in various spaces in Istanbul.
